Go Ahead and Disagree With Me...

They should do a remake of this film in English. It would be better.

I was reminded of a few American things, like Lavern & Shirley, or Romy & Michelle's High School Reunion. Even the English series Absolutely Fabulous, or maybe not because I actually don't know that one very well at all.

I disagree with you, but I'm pretty sure you're not Hitler.

I'm Czech, I watched the movie yesterday and for some reason there were English subtitles. With the peculiar way the girls are talking, a LOT was lost in the translation. I'm not sure a remake would fix that...

reply

No,it wouldn't---it was fine just the way it was. Only people who aren't used to watching foreign films with subtitles say that, though. Americanizing a movie isn't always going to make it better, believe me.

reply

Never said anything about Americanizing it, and I knew everyone on this board would disagree with me. You making assumptions about what type of films I watch, but hey whatever. This was just an okay film, that I think would be better re-done.

reply

Then again, you never did bother to explain WHY it would be better in English...

Could you do it now, please? You know, before we make any assumptions about your intentions?

reply

I see what you mean, but I think it's quirky charm wouldn't translate well if it was all spoken in English.

Also, it would struggle to find funding in a country like America.

reply

I disagree with you :-)

reply

Of course, you would not actually bother with explaining why.

OP, out of curiosity, what would you want to see improved upon in this film?

Personally I disagree about this film needing to be re-made, but I'm interested in reading why someone else would prefer to see a revised version.

reply

Honestly, I disagree with the idea of remaking this film not because it's Czech, but because it's from the 60s. The style wouldn't translate.
