Why is the DVD out-of-print?

Is there a new edition forthcoming?

reply

I'm going to have to grab a copy asap. I've bought this disc for a bunch of my friends as presents, but never added it to my own collection. It would suck if I couldn't get a copy for myelf now!

You can order a DVD copy of "Seconds" from this site:

http://www.amazon.com/Seconds-Rock-Hudson/dp/B00005RDAJ

Prices have gone up since I ordered my copy, but the movie is a cult classic of the first order. I have watched it many times and continue to be fascinated by it.

If you have seen the film on cable, some additional scenes are available on the DVD.

The disc contains director commentary from John Frankenheimer which is most interesting.

The Paramount DVD is OOP because Criterion has purchased the rights. So you can expect a nice bonus filled DVD early next year at the earliest. There has been nothing about it on the schedule for later this year unfortunately

reply

That is AWESOME news! I will gladly wait a year or more to get a nice Criterion edition of this.

What's your source on this? News to me.

reply

Also heard the rumor that this was licensed from Criterion. I believe the source was an e-mail from a Criterion rep.

I own the DVD that has been previously out. I don't suppose a new version would have the important scene that was cut towards the end - (Well, one can hope...)

BTW, I saw this movie in the theatre my senior year in H.S. and was blown away. I walked out of the theatre knowing two things:

1. It was a classic
2. It would last about a week in the theatres (it was clear that I was about the only one at that show who connected with it)

What an unbelievable film. Has anyone heard anything more about a new Criterion edition?

reply

Yes, I'd be interested to know, too. I just watched it, I'm overwhelmed but I only had an avi file and I would love to own a special edition DVD of the film.

reply

This title deserves the Criterion treatment. If only for the cinematography.
Was it ever confirmed to be an upcoming release?

reply

What's the crucial scene cut from the end? I saw this on TCM, and I'm pretty sure it was the longer, 97 minute version.

reply

This blows. I just found out about this movie and want to check it out.

Criterion will be releasing on DVD and Bluray in August

reply

Yep -- and it looks terrific. Ordered it and saw the film for the first time last night on Criterion's Blu-Ray, and it was exceptional. Wonderful film, wonderful Blu-Ray.
