Long uninterrupted shot...

For those of you who are curious, the long, uninterrupted shot when Charlie Evans first meets the Old Man runs 6 minutes and 3 seconds. In the commentary, Frankenheimer laments the use of "MTV" cuts in modern movies and explains they shot this scene twice and printed both takes, with the second take making the final cut. While six minutes barely counts as a long take since they made Russian Ark, I agree with the director, the modern quick-cut is making films almost unwatchable. Don't believe me, try watching "Domino" without developing a head ache.

I also enjoy a nice long shot, my favorite being the apartment interrogation scene in Touch Of Evil. But I disagree that every movie which employs quick cuts is inherently bad. For example, Dark City has an enormous amount of cuts but is extremely effective.

I noticed the length of that shot too.
