John Randolph

I don't know if this has been posted before, so apologies if it has. While most posts recognize the "seconds" idea associated with Rock Hudson's double life image in Hollywood, it also includes John Randolph. Real name Emanuel Cohen was made less ethnic in the 40's then he was blacklisted in the 50's. he makes a return to mainstream films in Seconds which began a successful career as a character actor. To me, he qualified for the Stanton/Walsh rule that whatever he appeared in made the production worth watching, regardless how much the film stank.

The first time I heard about Randolph was when he did an episode of Seinfeld as George's dad - this was in the original broadcast of the Handicapped Spot. He was replaced later by Jerry Stiller - NOT younger or more handsome, mind you (hee-hee). Anyway, that was the first and only thing I'd seen Randolph in, then I saw "Seconds" - he turned in a flawless performance. I'd like to see more of his acting. Even in playing a meek sort of character, he still managed to bear a commanding presence, if that makes sense.

I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked.
