The old guy (Qian) tells the other workers don't worry and don't be afraid. The movie had a lot of interesting Chinese. A fair amount of it was in a rather hard to understand dialect (I think it was some variation of Taiwanese or Hakkanese) and then when the white actors spoke chinese, it was totally wrong. However, there are some interesting gems of mandarin through the movie. Everyone keeps calling them Yang gui, or foreign devils.
