My boyfriend said that his friend saw this movie in theaters, and that at the end, Holman lived. Now he has never seen anything to prove this, and we were wondering if this is the case, or if his friend was thinking of the wrong movie. Anyone know for sure? Hope to hear back from you all.
shareI saw this in the early 70s and Holman definitely did not live. I was only 9 when the movie was made in 1966 so I'm not sure if he lived in the original release. But I can't believe a major plot point like that would have been changed.
Steve McQueen lived through The Great Escape and Bullit though.
It was just such a shock to see Steve McQueen die, that your boyfriend refused to believe it. I don't blame him :-)
shareMy husband and I were watching this movie for the first time last night on one of the Dish HD channels. Part way through I asked him how many of the main characters would be alive at the end of the movie. I said probably most of them would be dead and he said "they can't kill of the lead character!" I, sadly, turned out to be right. A great movie. My husband, not known for staying awake during most of the movies I watch, stayed awake through the whole thing.
