Rambo and The Sand Pebbles

Anybody see Rambo 4? I wonder if Sly borrowed from TSP. The new one involves a boat, missionaries and is based in Burma, a civil war-torn country. Oh, and Colonel Troutman was played by Crenna of course.

And the late Jerry Goldsmith did the musical scores for THE SAND PEBBLES and the first three "Rambo" movies! Don't ever forget that!

Richard Crenna was great in the Sand Pebbles!
Looked awesome with his sword as he fought a boarding action.

reply

I wouldn't insult TSP by comparing it to something as silly as Rambo.

reply

Were you thinking about comparing them? I hope not. Anyway, I think Sly is a TSP fan and "pulled" from the film a bit. I also think he "pulled" from "The African Queen". Sly does some iron work for his propeller kinda like Bogey did. Please don't consider comparing Rambo and "The African Queen", however. That would also be silly.

At least Jake knows how to aim a weapon, the only thing Rambo aims is a bow. Sights? What are those?

reply

If Sly remakes "The Sand Pebbles", you better believe that the a-hole who cuts up Mako is gonna get one of those arrows you're writing of. Jake coulda taken a shot at that prick, too. Jake does speak for Rambo when he says "What the hell are we doing here?" -clearly a reference to some SE Asia goings on of the 1960's. You see, the two are not so different. My original point. Rambo wins by attrition. He doesn't need sights.

You got that right, buddy. Stallone is an illiterate dope compared to Robert Wise and Richard McKenna.
