Subliminal Message

I watched this last night on TCM and at one point in the film a black number flashed on the screen. I believe the number was 8.something and I'm wondering what this may mean. I think it flashes when a character emerges over a hill.
Has anyone else seen this?

Just watched the film and fairly near the end something black flashed in the upper right hand portion of the picture but I could not identify it and didn't give it much thought. If there was supposed to be a subliminal message...it missed me.

Couldn't these blips be the reel change signals found on all movies?

In the industry they are known as 'cigarette burns'.

Its a signal for the projectionist to get the next reel ready to go.

What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence.
