We just had a viewing at our house. Somehow, I had never seen this iconic 60s classic. My 11 year old daughter, who speaks French, enjoyed it (I think) but said "weird" a lot (like Jody Foster in 'Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore': "WEIRD!")

Anyway, I am curious if anyone knows the town used in the film. It looked very authentic, but I can't figure out where in Europe an old town would have been allowed to remain so decrepit for so long. I know movie people can transform existing locales to match earlier periods, but this place looked really, really bashed up. Lovely, though, and rather French!

I have to wait for her to come over and translate, but what is the deal with this town? Do they keep it in a constant state of near-collapse just for the movie biz?
