Powerful Movie

I saw "Ride Beyond Vengeance" a long time ago and still remember how powerful, realistic, and adult it seemed.

Verily I say unto thee...well said, it dwarfs the insipid THE SEARCHERS which is considered powerful, realistic and adult yet is none of those things.

Either you two were watching another movie of the same name or your sense of judgement is way off.

Just watched this on TV. Connors does all his acting with grimaces, eye rolling and snarling with those big tombstone teeth.

The extended fistfight with Claude Akins is laughable, they break enough furniture and fall or get thrown through enough windows, doors, bannisters and mirrors to have fatally injured both of them.

The "townsfolk's" function is to stand around in discrete clumps watching the action and rushing in when a body arrives.

Gary Merrill, a fine actor is a grizzled old geezer and wanders in and out proffering advice that nobody seems to take.
Michael Rennie looks bemused throughout and phones his performance in.
Bill Bixby camps it up like some demented drama queen and generally chews his way through the scenery.

A bad movie, poorly made and substituting stilted action for any form of sensible storytelling.

yes, awful. Made for TV? Some cast though,... ... wasted.

Yes, good idea.
"Bernie" is amusing, entertaining, witty, cleverly scripted and the various threads of the story culminate neatly in the finale.

In other words, it delivers what it promises.

There are no bonus points for having a superior attitude about movies, there are redeeming qualities in most if you seek them. My critique of "Ride Beyond Vengeance" was not "It's rubbish, I don't like it". Instead, I took the time to make a point by point review of it's many shortcomings, it was a poor movie that wasted a talented cast.

You're welcome.

I like it-it's a good (if downbeat) western with an amazing cast, and a great performance from Connors. Columbia/Sony released it on a great DVD a few years ago, but it's now out of print. I'm glad I have one.

I just watched the DVD and liked it. Wasn't great or special, but it was fairly decent. I rather enjoyed the Connors vs. Akins fight.

I'll put-up a new signature when I'm good and ready...

Last night I watched another Western revenge film The Deadly Trackers and this is much better in all categories, acting, directing and script. Although TDT had better scenery.

Well, most people are idiots with bad taste...so there!
