what a waste of time, what a bore

the film has no plot and no serious acting and that's a pitty for such actors like Alec and Max.
The music is awful also (John Barry!!!).
it's really a shame.

I could hardly agree. Segal did a great job! I thought the movie was ahead of it's time. Give it some credit. It would be movies like Quiller or some silly Elvis beach movie.

reply

Segal.brought the film down....he is a handsome gent thou

Insightful post douche bag.

reply

I can see hoov your someone with nothing good to say!!!

reply

You're not very bright, are you?

What a "pitty".

reply

my comments are on the film, not on people.
on the other hand your comment refers to me, an actual person, because of my comment.
if you disagree, then you can express your opinion an point out why you disagree.
that's what a BRIGHT person would do, instead of being rude to other person's views.
also, if you don't get that, that is the real PITTY.

I recently watched this film for the first time on tv. I sincerely believe it is the stupidest, worst spy film ever made, though I am willing to hear other nominations for that title.

reply

I saw this movie when it first came out. I watched it again tonight in 2015. It was not very good the second time around. I found Segal very irritating and Berger very beautiful.

reply

Well,we're all different! - I totally love this film, but there again,I'm a Harold Pinter fan! - I thought he brought a totally brilliant interpretation of a 1960's spy film to the screen.A great performance from Alec Guinness doing a prequel for his later 'Smiley',was the icing on the cake......

reply

I love spy / espionage films, and I mean cerebral ones like most LeCarre adaptations.

However, this movie is just terrible. I was going to start the same thread as the OP, until I saw this one.

Quiller's actions are inane, to put it mildly, the overall plot is meaningless, and.. Oh heck I don't even care to waste any more time describing its many faults.

A complete waste of film, IMO.

Senta Berger is one serious babe, however. Oh yes.

reply

YES!!! When I saw it first when I was ten I actually liked it. I am with you word for word on this post ( except that i saw it again in 2016) !

reply

I agree SO much with this short review except that I liked the music!!!

reply

Just saw it!

Everything about it is excellent, ESPECIALLY the music. I would recommend it to anyone who loves great dialog, pacing, realism, suspense. If you like giant robots, then, you probably won't.

reply

Yeah there is a nice mode, Max Von Sydow is very good, as it the music but it just seems style over substance, I just don't get the point.

reply

I thought this film was really well done. I liked that the spy espionage plot was told in a realistic manner without any cheesy gimmicks and contrived big scale action set pieces.

I've been chasing grace/ But grace ain't easy to find

reply

I think it's the best spy film ever made.
The score is a joy to the ears and the Berlin setting is inspired,
