Are there dvd's of 'Ashes'

Hi: I saw this film in London in the late 1960's and was stunned by its scope and power. Yet I cannot find it to rent or for sale now (it would have to have English subtitles). Even the Wadja website only has Polish titles. Does anyone have a line on this film in dvd form?
Thanks,
Maruice

today is Feb. 16, 2010 and I have been looking for DVDs of this movie but there are still none.
The double casset VHS is avaiable through PolArt at less than $20.00 US. And that is all there is.
Do you think that a letter writing campane would do any good?

There was a Wajda retrospective that toured the globe recently & I got to see this as part of that.... Criterion had released the war trilogy, but not this one. After seeing this one, I would say this is hands down his best, so I'm surprised it hasn't turned up yet on dvd (or better, Blu-ray, since it's in black & white cinemascope & really should be on blu ray for full detail.). I wrote to Criterion requesting this one...maybe you should too.

Better late than never.

The short answer is "yes, but no". Vision in Poland released it (twice, i think), but with no subtitles. There are at least two Russian releases as well, again, no subtitles.

Rekonstrukcja Cyfrowa and KinoRP made a glorious remaster in full 2.35:1 - which has never been released on media, and the rights were sold to Canal+. It has been shown on HDTV in both Poland and Russia, but that won't do us non Slavic speakers any good.

The current rights for creating a Blu-Ray version of it lies with DMMS in Poland. The bad news is they've said "coming soon" for a good two years as of writing this post. The good news is they put English subtitles on all their movie remasters, and they have done smashingly good jobs so far.

Whenever "soon" is, noone knows.
