Question: French Cars
Does anyone know what the black cylinders mounted on top of the French cars were used for ? I am guessing since gasoline was in short supply this was some type of alternate fuel source.

sharesomething to do with gasification and wood gas generators.
Drop it like it's legal precedent!
That is correct, at this time an alternate fuel system known as Gasogene was used in German-occupied Europe, where wood-chips would fire alcohol & produce a fuel that would power automoviles & trucks, if you liked this, you'll also enjoy the archival footage of cars turned into cabriolet coaches & the curious but cute volkswagen-like pedal-powered car that appear at the opening scene...
shareWonderful!
I was of course at a total loss as to what those tanks were. Thanks!
