I was really disappointed in Black Sunday, which was just silly and a bit of a yawnfest. This movie had a better atmosphere, and I like the washed out colors and the creepy set.

I liked both films and thought each had a good, creepy atmosphere. I actually think both films feel very similar in tone and subject matter to me so I can't choose one or the other because they feel like equals. I think both films would make a great double feature.
Death lives in the Vault of Horror!
This one will always have the fact that it is understated in all departments compared to that one. It will hold up better with modern audiences because of it. That was his debut, it was just remarkable seeing how incredible a grasp he had over his craft at that early stage, while this is clearly the work of a more experienced filmmaker.

I have to agree that it's a better film than 'Black Sunday' imo.

I prefer black Sunday. This gets a 9/10 and black Sunday gets a 10/10
