Actress that plays Melissa Grips

According to imdb Valeria Valeri was born in 1925. You mean she was 41 when she played the young girl? or am I missing something here?

You're right, that's weird. Yet from the trivia page and another source I cannot remember, it says she is played by a boy...?

Yeah Lamberto Bava says that she was played by a boy. The Tim Lucas commentary on the dark sky disc says it too. I think the bday is a typo on imdb's part.

Actually I'm very much prone to believe that one.
I have seen few still pictures of "Melissa" in close-ups and my impression, after careful consideration, is that I'm looking at a little boy in a wig rather than a girl. Tell me what you think:

One sure thing is that the IMDb credit for "Valeria Valeri" is wrong as it's "Valerio Valeri" on the film itself and there's no way Melissa was played by a 41 years old woman.

During the whole movie, I thought the girl ghost looked like a boy in drag. Mainly because of the wideness of the forehead. It reminded me of drag queens. No matter how good their makeup and wigs are, the forehead and hands often give them away.

I'm guessing someone in casting either liked his look more than any other girl who auditioned for the role. Or the kid is someone's relative.

I wish I knew who the actor who played Melissa was. He was very great and creepy. The character of Melissa reminded me of Ralphie Glick from Salem's Lot.

Several websites list the actor's name as Valerio Valeri. Unfortunately, it's a common name that has been around for centuries, so it's hard to pin down which one may be the boy who played Melissa Graps. If you find one who was born in the mid to late 1950s, it may be him.

I guess he was one of those child actors who does one film, grows out of their cuteness, then go one to have a regular job like gardener or banker.

Melissa Graps was played by a boy called Valerio Valeri. He wasn't a professional child actor, but the son of the doorman in - I think Bava's, or the production office's - building.
Anyway, KILL, BABY... KILL! was his only film appearance.
The actress Valeria Valeri is not in this movie.

Oh no! You mean, Julia Stiles is . . . ?

I'm so confused.

Not surprising he/she is completely forgotten. It was an atrocious performance.

Because it was such a huge performance and huge roll, right?

He\she barely had any screen time, and once he\she does appear, it's usually either "make a scary look" or "tap your hands to that window".

Yes, truly huge range of emotions are needed for that.

anyway, I believe it was a boy, not girl who played "Melissa". It looks like a boy, or rather one of those "young old" actors, kinda like the guy who played Isaac in Children of the Corn. He was like 40 when he made that, but looked no older then 15 . Stephen King fans can probably correct me on that one.

and I remember in one of the Italian Zombie movies having 40 something years old actor playing 5-6 year old character, being voiced by another 40 something woman pretending she's 5 year old boy. Crazy, right? 

reply

I wouldn't be surprised if Melissa's mother was played by a man, too.
