Brain Keith

Always liked him,but does anyone notice how he seemed to model himself on John Wayne? I see a similarity.

Now that you mention it, I can see a similarity, but I think Brian Keith is way cooler than the Duke :) It was great to see him pop up in this, as I didn't know he was going to be in it, and one of my favorite parts was when he takes Max under his wing for awhile. I was hoping he'd come back at the end - I liked that he called out to Max when he was riding w/ his enemies, but would've liked to have seen more.

Yes ! He sounded exactly like the Duke. I logged on here tonight just to say that exact same thing ! Except I felt he really had it in him and not just doing a copy of the Duke. I never really 'bought' him (Keith) as a cowboy for some reason although hes done dozens of roles in westerns. Not to mention he was a Marine - a 'machine gunner' in WWII at that (Wayne didn't have that distinction/cred.) Keith sounded like 'the real deal' here and very much like Wayne but I didn't feel like he was 'acting' or consciously doing his best 'Wayne' impression. I have a new found respect for his 'western' persona. Its possible that his role in 'Family Affair' is what killed it for me (although he played that role years after co starring in a slew of westerns. I'm so confused.... :-).
BTW, not my intention here to knock Wayne. But I was always surprised though to find that guys like Jimmy Stewart, Eddie Albert, Brian Keith etc were real life 'tough' guys who had really 'walked the walk'. Thats Hollywood I guess.

The Jonas Cord character's gun fighting advice seemed far ahead of its' time. The remarks about being able to shoot with either hand when tired, sore, wounded or half drunk was similar to modern combat pistol shooting discipline taught by Col.Jeff Cooper, RIP. Other shooting instructors I've had the privilege of training with. Not what I'm used to seeing from most other Hollywood western and action movies. Who was the technical advisor on weapons use for Nevada Smith?

I don't think he 'modeled' himself on the Duke. Brian Keith was always good as a 'man's man' kinda guy. I miss actors like that.

Not really.

I never liked Brian Keith much as an actor but I sure like him in this. And "The Parent Trap".

I liked Brian Keith including in this movie although I do wish he had a bigger role..another western I enjoyed where he had a predominant role was The Deadly Companions whereby he was able to show more emotion than his normal characters but still in a tough dude way..
