This can be bought on an import DVD from amazon market place sellers in the UK. But beware, the one I bought had a fault on the disc and the disc froze 70 minutes into the film and I've so far not been able to see the last part of the film. I think the disc is a DVD-R, but I'm not sure. It's doubtful whether the film would be given a proper DVD release in the present day climate of paranoia regarding child sexual abuse and with the explicit child nudity in it, not to mention the main theme of the mother's incestuous relationship with her eleven years old son, that makes him impotent as an adult and unable to consumate his marriage. But the Swedish film makers were always more broad minded about such themes, even in the 1960's, than their American and British counterparts probably ever will be.

Although I've only managed to see the first three quarters of the film, from what I've seen of it so far, it's an excellent, very well acted and very well directed film about a very difficult and taboo subject and should be given a legitimate, uncensored DVD release. However, this may prove very difficult today, especially regarding the scene where the young boy becomes sexually aroused in bed as his mother purposely reads him an erotic bedtime story in order to observe the effect it has on him. The film has Swedish dialogue with English sub-titles.

Who is John Waters? I didn't know he wrote anything about this film. Now you've got me curious, too.

in his book "crackpot" he gave a brief review when he was talking about his guilty pleasure movies.

7.00 is the cost for this, with EST at allcluesnosolutions.com. I have bought from here many times and know they are the best store out there. Many, many titles there for 7.00 apiece.
