You won't find (I don't think) a film like this being made today.
I remember seeing this on BBC 1 or maybe it was BBC2. Even though I was very young at the time I knew that this wsa something rather special.
A film like this today would not be made which is why films like this are not being made.
If you have never seen it track it down. I don't think you will be disappointed.

This movie has been on my list for awhile & I let out an audible "yesssss!" when I discovered tonight that it's now streaming on Netflix!
Just a few minutes in and I definitely agree with your sentiment.
Apocaliptico came close when they were being sacrificed, standing in line watching the man ahead of you getting his heart taken out of his chest. Then the miracle when the last guy gets to run while the hunters throw spears at him. That movie was something.
