The 'Munsters' in color or black and white?

I thought that the movie was alright, but,I grew up with them in black and white. The sitcom made them look like the old "Movie monsters". In this movie (in color) They didn't look or seem as funny as before. Is it just me? Let me know what you think.

Seeing Herman in green makeup as well as the others must have been a put off for the kids and adults when they saw them. I am reminded of mr. Spock looking green in the first few episodes and then they changed it. B&W would have been better like Young Frankenstein.

I've watched this movie by eliminating the color and watching it in black & white; this way it reminds me of the television series. I like it better that way.

When I recently watched Munster Go Home and Munster Revenge I did the same thing, turning the color on my TV all the way down that I could watch in B&W as I am accustom to seeing my favorite monster family.

And he rubbed the pot roast all over his chest, excitable boy, they all said

A lot of the old classic horror flicks had a more eerie atmosphere in black and white. The pilot was actually done in colour (uk spelling!)with Joan Marshall as Pheobe Munster who was dropped because she played the role to close to Morticia Addams. There was also a lad called Happy Derman as Eddie in the pilot. Also Herman and Pheobe's make up in the pilot was a blue/ grey colour more than green. The film is ok but I watch it in black and white. The 70's remake was atrocious watched a couple of episodes but it was terrible.

I just manage to get 1313 Mockingbird Lane which sounds interesting. I like Eddie Izzard and it would be interesting to see a modern take on the old show. I heard that it was axed by the network. The network may have made a big mistake dropping it.

I agree. This would be like the old monster movies colorized (which I believe is no longer being done...thank God).

My question is if the series were done in color to begin with, would it have made a difference?

I realize that most fans of the series (including myself) are delighted to have The Munsters filmed in traditional B&W just as the Universal Monster movies were, but I think the series would have succeeded and endured even in color. And if it had been filmed in color (as had obviously been considered, given that the pilot was in color), then the color in Munster, Go Home! would have been a non-issue.

I don't mind them in colour, but I think their skin looks quite bad. So I prefer them in black and white.

Black and white looked better.

I love the colors inside the Mockingbird Lane house. Seeing the green monster skin gives us a better idea of what people are frightened by when they meet the Munsters. It is an adjustment seeing them in color AND without laugh tracks, though.

I'd like to point out that most television in 1964 was Black and White. It wasn't an artistic choice. When the movie was made they probably didn't think "let's keep this B&W to maintain stylistic integrity", but rather "how can we make this big and shiny so that lots of kids will pay for tickets".

Any movie in color will always be better than black and white. How can you even ask this question
