Given all the stories, I'm surprised we haven't seen more of Modesty on the big screen. (Or at least the TV screen.) There had been talk, years ago, of doing a film with Caroline Munro, but the project never went anywhere. I always thought Marina Sirtis would be good in the role, too.
I think Angelina Jolie would be perfect for the role! Monica Vitti looked very much like the cartoon character was drawn, I think Ms. Jolie could also play the part and look like the character.
Myself I would want to see a good Modesty Blaise movie
Modesty - Angelina Jolie kickass Garvin- Brad Pitt can do a cockney accent Weng the butler - Jet Li looks really young Tarrant MI6 boss - Michael Caine brings dignity
Gabriel the main nemesis - Johnny Depp with Ben Affleck and as his bodyguard gabriel is a wimp but is deadly Tarrants right hand - Matt Damon looks innocent but is a lethal spy Denise female agent for Tarrant - Gwyneth Paltrow
You need an actor with flamboyance, grace, and a playful, enigmatic presence to pull that off. Jolie hasn't even come close to that. Don't get me wrong, she is a good actress and I have enjoyed several of her films, she's just not right for the roll.
This might sound a little strange, but I think Kate Hudson could pull it off. Remember the screen presence she had in almost famous? Almost like every scene she is in your eyes just gravitate towards her light.
You need an actress that has fun in front of the camera, someone that sparkles.
Having seen Lara Croft Tomb Raider - The Cradle of Life for the first time last night, there were bits of it that would fit very well into a Modesty movie - e.g. when they jump off a Hong Kong skyscraper and hang-glide/parachute onto a junk.
Jolie handles the action sequences very well, looks believable when she is beating up the villains, has the right figure for Modesty and can look stunning when required. It would be interesting to see how she would look with a chignon..............
At the end of the day, Modesty is a dream woman, and given the different requirements of the character, hugely difficult to cast. Alexandra Staden did a pretty good job in "My Name is..." but really was neither stunning-looking nor voluptuous enough, although the latter could be explained as Modesty not having yet filled out.
Agreed. It's almost criminal that a modern-day Blaise film hasn't been made.
However, like other UK franchises, casting an American might kill it. (Remember The Saint) Among current A-list British actresses, I was thinking of Keira Knightley or more so Kate Beckinsale to play the character, but Eva Green would do well too.
If it happens, I hope to God it won't be a parody.
