Ever Get Comeuppance?

Do you think Mademoiselle ever get her comeuppance for all her evil deeds? Not only did she damage property and kill animals, she was directly or indirectly responsible for killing at least two men. And making an orphan. Plus, she didn't correct the villagers assumption that she was raped even though she was a willing participant with the logger stud.

The ending of the movie made it seem like she skipped off on her merry way to her next job.

Was that supposed to be taken as romantic or sexy?

No, honey. But this film wasn't supposed to be either romantic or sexy. It's a naturalistic portrait on the nature of evil, and as such, it works very well. The whole point is for her to get away scot-free and completely spotless. Nobody would believe such a prim, proper young girl would ever do something like that, now would they? So there.

The evil of women is well-known. See: Antichrist. I would have ended the film 5 years later when the boy finds her and burns her alive.

You got that right! She was definitely a psychopath.

She would do very well in Los Angeles.... Or in politics.

The whole ending was an interesting metaphor of sorts. She was loved by the townspeople and the poor little boy was left fatherless, homeless and all by himself. Situations like this happen more often then one may think.
