why did Bruno burn the paper?

That paper appeared to be from the school house, perhaps even one of Bruno's? He could have turned it in and made the school teacher a suspect (unless it was his writing on the paper). He seemed to be saving her although he seemed to know she was the guilty one at the end.

I also wonder if the other children ever told their parents how badly the teacher treated Bruno. Perhaps they would have approved due to their xenophobia.

I wonder what year this story is set in. Also, why did she not just approach Manou sooner? Had she gotten her rocks off sooner, he might have survived the experience.

I've seen the future and I've left it behind.
