Ross Hunter

A great producer, who took Lana Turner's whose career was in jeopardy due to the Stompanato murder and gave Lana one of the greatest hits of her career in Imiation of Life, to be followed by Portrait in Black and Madame X where Lana gives the finest performance of her great career ( Postman Always Rings Twice, The Bad and The Beautiful, Peyton Place, Imitation of Life, Madame X).

Hunter also was producer of Doris Day's great Univeral hits, Pillow Talk, Lover Come Back, The Thrill of It All, Send Me No Flowers and the dramatic Madnight Lace.

Hunter also produced Susan Hayward's Back Street, Deborah Kerr's Chalk Garden and a host of Sandra Dee movies, such as Romanoff and Juliet, If A Man Ansers, Tammy and the Doctor, etc.

Hunter loved the glmour girls of the era ( Turner and Hayward) and also the former great ladies: Constance Bennet, Myrna Loy, Gloria Swanson et al and cast them.

In Hunter's movies, while he cast Rock Hudson, John Gavin, etc as Leading Men his pictures always favored the Lady Star

Hunter signed off the Universal lot with a huge hit, Airport.
