Question on the Ending (spoilers)

Did Alan actually KILL Martin, the principal etc. (everyone flying through the air) with the bulldozer ?

After all, Barbara's first movie was titled 'Bikini Widow'

Not only did Alan kill all those people at the end, he very likely bumped off Marie, Barbara Anne's mother, and made it look like a suicide. After all, what was he doing in her house in the first place? Barbara Anne certainly didn't expect to find him there. I think Alan was a bit more deranged than most people credit him for in this movie..

i just now realized today, that alan may have killed barbara's mother, but why? barbara never asked him to.

reply

Barbara only asked Alan to help her get the things that she wanted, and he knew she wanted to be with Bob, although Bob's mother thought Marie was a prostitute, so Alan got Marie out of the way to leave the path open for Barbara to get Bob.

I admit, I did suspect Alan having a hand in Marie's death, even though she seemed suicidal enough on her own & was drinking & I thought she was taking pills too....but Alan was just sitting there in the dark, never called an ambulance, and he strictly instructs Barbara not to touch anything for insurance purposes which I found rather odd.

I don't think he killed everyone at the end though - I even question if he ended up killing Bob. The scene w/ that bulldozer thing, reminded me of Animal House, when the vehicle hits the bleachers & Dean Wormer & everyone goes flying into the air - but they didn't die! So maybe I'm naive, but I don't think he killed anyone - he maybe wanted to, but I just don't think he actually killed anybody.

Alan killed all those people with the bulldozer, no question about that.

As far Marie goes ... he might have killed her but that was more likely a suicide that he made look like an accident. Insurance will cover an accidental death not a suicide.

If you watch "Trailers From Hell" and listen to John Landis's commentary, he says the movie is the confession of a sewrial killer before he's executed.

Thanks to whoever posted the link for Trailers From Hell. Fun site.

In his taped confession, Alan says that Marie's death, amongst other things, restored his faith in suicide. Since he confessed to all the other murders, there's no reason for him to be coy about this death. He just made the suicide look like an accident for insurance purposes.
