Jayne + Mamie

Jayne and Mamie refused to be filmed at the same time in their one scene together so stand ins were used. They were also arguing over who's name would appear first and GUESS WHO won! Hint: 40-18-36

Well you know by that time work was very limited for any of the blonde bombshells of the 50s...atleast in films. They found themselves often competing for a lot of roles and had just fallen into a bitter rivalry. Mamie likes to gloss over her involvement but really, she was just as competitive as Jayne.

kenoltingI enjoyed seeing Las Vegas hillbillys in the theatre as I am a fan of both Jayne Mansfield and Mamie Van Doren. They added their talents to the film snd made it a must for me.I think Mamie looked beautiful as always!

Mamie is really the female lead and has a lot more footage and a more important role in the film which surprised me because Jayne was always the bigger star. Of course Jayne was billed above her though. I think Jayne must have been an afterthought in casting but then when they brought her into the project she naturally was given billing above MVD. That was pretty silly of both gals though to refuse to share a shot in the film considering they were photographed together several times. I think it would have been cool if the movie had been rewritten to make it a "team" movie for them like Marilyn's work with Jane Russell and Betty Grable.

In an interview I did with Mamie for my now defunct website, Mamie says it was Jayne's idea to not be in the same scene with her. Also, Jayne got top billing because she was the bigger star and she insisted it in her contract as well.

Dammit Carol Sue, where is the vodka?!
