They cut out the songs!

As everybody likely knows, there are now more commercials per half hour than when the special was made in the mid-1960s. But when they run a second show following, like "You're Not Elected," they can make up the time.

But tonight, the whole scene of Schroeder playing World War I songs for Snoopy was gone, as was the football-kicking at the beginning.

The songs are one of my favorite parts of the show, so a big disappointment for me.

I thought I remembered Shroder having more to do in the show than this time around.

Isn't Schroeder playing the WWI music from "A Charlie Brown Christmas" or did they do it in both that special and this one?

They cut the butter scene, too.

This is why it's best to buy DVDs and blu rays - you can watch it whenever you wish, and without the cuts TV stations so frequently make to movies. No commercials, either.

They had them this year !! What was the butter scene...was it where Lucy asked for an extra piece of candy for Linus & something that looks like a square of butter is dropped in her bag ??

reply

I had the WWII songs. Don't remember anything about butter unless it was the extra thing that Lucy got in her bag.

Uh-oh.
Not a word you want to hear in this house.
Catch ya on the flip side.

OMG!!! That is SO wrong, but hilarious. The Butter refers to The Last Tango in Paris...

Last year, they ran it uncut, thankfully, with "You're Not Elected" following. But this year, with Toy Story of Terror at 8, Great Pumpkin at 8.30, I'm guessing the songs will be cut again. Maybe some other stuff, too.

"..they can make up the time."

You can't manufacture time. What are you talking about? Haven't you seen Seinfeld's stand-up skit about the airline pilots that lie about being able to 'make up time' - they don't really create more time, they just fly faster.

reply

That kind of reminds me of the Seinfeld skit about not keeping reservations. One of his best bits IMO.
