Where does the Peanuts gang live?

All these years and I'm not sure where the Peanuts gang lives.

I've always assumed it was someplace like upstate New York in a semi-rural community of middle-middle-class residents. I assumed New York because decades ago I watched Charlie Brown attend a spelling bee in New York City and he remarked that he was taking a bus trip of several hours to New York. So that meant it couldn't have been in the Midwest.

Does anyone know for sure?

starting next year, everywhere BUT Minneapolis, unfortunately.

first N[d]ickelodeon takes over the Mall of America, and now, every Cedar Fair amusement park EXCEPT "Valleyfair!" in Shakopee, MN will have peanuts characters themed.

I'd say a combination of Minnesota and Southern California...both places Schultz lived. You could see evidence of both areas in his strips; e.g., snow in Winter; and taking trips to the beach, Snoopy hiking to his brother Spike in Needles.

The biography of Schulz that came out a few years ago looks into the strips and how they related to Schulz's life. The book points to a lot of clues in the series that suggests that the gang lives in Minnesota.

not to mention that in the "election" episode, Lucy gets a call from someone looking for a St. Paul address.

There probably is an answer to this question, but I like to think that the gang lives in "Anytown, USA." :-)

I considered Minneapolis many times. However, the Peanuts gang does not speak with Minnesota accents. None of them have ever intoned, "Oohh, you betcha...ya can' git theeya fum hea". They speak in unaccented American English, as if they were from California. I still think it's upstate New York.

I've been to Minnesota countless times and I've never heard anyone talk like that.

I don't know but I have always wondered, because I am charmed by the images they depict. Like in the Great Pumpkin, that huge pumpkin patch right by their house, and all the huge yards and houses spaced apart, and the changing seasons. I live in Miami, so all those things are non existant for me.

It's Minnesota.

In one of the comic strips, the character of "5" mentions their zip code as 95472, which is in northern California.

reply

always thought it was in the northern usa....

Just put it on the Underhill's tab.

The character of "5"?

reply

"5", who's full name is 555 95472, was a boy that Schultz introduced into the strip in Sept. 1963. He explains to Linus that his dad said, "We have so many numbers these days we're all losing our identity, he decided that everyone in our family should have a number, not a name". He has two sisters named "3" and "4".
They have a non-speaking part in "A Charlie Brown Christmas". They are in the famous "dance" sequence. I just found that out myself, never knew realized it before.

The posters that said Minnesota or St. Paul, MN...are all correct.
