I noticed that in the scene where Simon and Nicole are trying to escape from the closet and he is marking places on the door with chalk, Peter takes the stick out of his mouth and massive bits of chalk are in his mouth and it looks like he swallowed them!
Has anyone else noticed this? I hope it was actually a stick of mint because I for one would not have been able to swallow real chalk

I would've spit it out but my impression was that he thought spitting would look un-cool in front of Nicole. Of course I'm merely interpreting that, though.

Now I feel like watching it again to see if you can see the swallowing look (his throat and adams apple moving if he swallows it) though considering hes still alive, the chalk was either not lethal if he swallowed it, it wasnt chalk, and finally it was chalk but he didnt swallow it, and kept it in his mouth.
Okay what is all this hysteria over chalk eating? It isn't feces or asbestos or uranium fuel rods.
I have known people to have chalk eating compulsions and it is said to be a healthy digestive aid. Although I can't speak to the fact the compulsion itself is healthy. Most compulsions are not.
It isn't something everyone should want to try because to me, it seems to set my teeth on edge and my spine tingles. However there are many people that are unaffected in that way.

I noticed that too. I don't think it was on purpose. I think O'Toole accidentally bit off the end of the chalk. The look on his face says it wasn't too tasty! Instead of calling cut, the director must have thought it was ok enough to keep rolling. Added to the drama I guess!

I think you're right, I don't think it was scripted it just happened and the director and Peter just went with it and it was kept in the scene.

Eating a small amount of chalk will not harm you. Small children do it all the time. Geophagy is common around the world. You've probably engaged in it yourself if you've ever had a dose of Kaopectate.
