About the liquor bottle . . . . . (spoilers)

Why didn't O'Toole wipe it down (to remove his fingerprints) right before setting it up on the pedestal?

Why didn't the Chief Guard demand that it be taken off the pedestal with white gloves and/or a clean cloth (to avoid contaminating it's surface with their own fingerprints, thus possibly obscuring the fingerprints of the criminal)?

I know . . . . movie logic.

they didn't have codis or any such database back then. fingerprints would only be useful to confirm a suspect and the guards assumed they would be able to catch the burglar still in the building.

also seeing as the guards were extremely bored with their job i assume they had never experienced a burglary before and they were quite flustered by it.
