What did the smaller writing on Jerusha's grave read? I was watching the movie through Netflix online, and the graphics were horrible. I could read her name, but the writing below it was illegible (bad eyesight + poor graphics + computer screen).

I'm fairly certain that it says "Jerusha Bromley Hale 1799-1835 Of her bones was Hawaii built". Somewhere at home I have a black and white still photo so I'll look for that to confirm. BTW and in case you haven't read the book, Jerusha dies of heart failure brought on by overwork. I don't know if they ever filmed a death scene and if I ever get to talk to Julie again, I will ask her. There was a big fight about this point between the director and the studio people. The director wanted to leave out the death scene because it would've been too much, considering the childbirth scene, but the studio people thought that skipping her death would be cheating the audience. I wish Julie had had the chance to do a death scene, and personally I could have done without the cliched birth scene. BTW in the book Jerusha is alive when Rafer brings her the house, and she lives another three years in the house - so the movie version was quite a switch from the novel.
