Porsche

What year and model is Harper's Porsche? The three prettiest things in the movie are Pamela Tiffin, the mansion, and the Porsche and not in that order

I agree, except I would add the beauty of the Southern California coastline. I believe that Harper's car is a Porsche 356, maybe a 1956. This was the predecessor to the 911. Obviously they got a beat-up one so that they could drive it off the road.

yeah, it was a 1955 or '56 Porsche 356 Speedster with the button taillights. The tear drop taillights came in 1957.

Incidentally, Paul Newman was a big Porche fan, it may very well have been his own car. When this film was made, it was a ten year old beat up old car, but already an icon and a classic. Newman was a great car fan, among his possessions were a Beetle convertible with an engine swapped from a Porsche 356.

There were actually two Porsches used in the movie. If you watch carefully the license plate position changes from below to above the bumper. I purchased one of the movie cars in 1981. The car was the Porsche 356 that was driven into the ravine at the end of the movie. My car was a 1954 Porsche 356, serial number 80076. It was a pre-A car and was the 76th produced out of 200 for the 1954 model year.
