Whose performances do you admire most?

Here, I think Joan Hackett (Dottie) and Elizabeth Hartman (Priss) do the best acting. They're very naunced and alive.

Shirley Knight is a good actress, but I just find the character of "good girl" Polly so boring. I wish Jessica Walter used a lighter hand with Libby, as I think that's the funniest character in the book.

PS: Did everyone notice the cool personalized stationery Helena was typing the class newsletter on?? It actually has an illustration of Kathleen Widdoes engraved on it! I wonder if she kept some?? I would! (This film is really well designed in general, I think...except for some of the hairstyles.)

I completely agree, though I have to say Candice Bergen, for all the criticism, played a thankless role at a time when it was not cool to be a lesbian and made it cool.
Great point about the stationery!!!

Jessica Walter embodied the style of the period, and gave her character a completely believable combination of frivolity, sexuality, intelligence, and vulnerability.

I feel Dottie was amazing and nuanced, so wonderful as the awkward older member of the group trying to be daring. It's a shame she didn't have as much the second half to work with, perhaps on purpose to show how sad she became.

In all due respect, Priss drove me nuts. That's probably an accolade to her acting, though, to portray such a whiny put-upon character who's trying to be political. Really, she didn't realize all her in-laws were Republicans before? Moan, bitch, moan.

I actually really liked Kay too. Her performance, possibly not upon first viewing, was deeper and better with further ones.

I really liked them all. Even Polly and Lakey, although smaller parts, played their types well. Norine stands out in an even smaller role. I guess the weakest may be Helena, not a lot to go on there.

Jessica Walter, she was the most attractive and she gave zero fucks.
