It seemed like a good idea on paper. . .


Maybe I'm alone, but I found the use of the female choir incredibly intrusive and inappropriate. I think I understand the intent of the film makers, but don't think it succeeded at all. I think the film would have been much better served with an original dramatic score,perhaps by someone like Henry Mancini.

I generally make statements without attaching the humble "in my opinion", but since art appreciation is subjective, and the OP's comment is intelligent, I will say that in my opinion the female choir was brilliant, adding period and social class atmosphere in a way a traditional score couldn't have, and reminding us that these young women are spiritual sisters, dating back to their college years. I loved it. I also think Mancini, as good as he was, would have been a very poor choice to compose a score for this movie.
