Sex and The City - 1933?

Did anyone else feel like they were watching an early version of Sex and The City? The typewriter crawl, the lovers, husbands, New York, careers, Libby/Samantha and the telephone conversations?

reply

No, as these ladies become something better than the idiots in Sex & The City due to the Depression.

The characters in "The Group" are interesting women. The girls in "Sex and the City" are irritating middle-aged adolescents. But yes, there are some stylistic similarities between the film and the television series.

If anything Sex & the City was a lazy attempt at updating the classy film ,'The Group'.

Just for the record, I'm not a Dude, I'm a Dudette!

According to Wikipedia, Sex and the City was Candace Bushnell's attempt to update The Group. That could be why you see so many similarities between the two.

I think the concept works better with four main characters instead of 8. I kept having to look at a name guide to keep the women apart.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

Thanks for posting, I didn't know that. Just shows how 'in tune' we have become with the creative process being flashed before our eyes. I remember going backstage to tell these 2 guys who had just performed as an opening act that the whole time they were singing I kept hearing Shawn Phillips. Shawn is an obscure but extremely talented musician from the '70s. They thanked me for the comparison because they had spent a long time with him absorbing what they could.
