Le Film!

I watched the film yesterday as part of my French class and I was so impressed!

A genuinely funny film and a great idea overall!

They don't make them like they used to! :D

Glad you loved it. We don't make movies like that anymore unfortunately. If you liked this one you must look up La Folie des Grandeurs and Les Aventures de Rabbi Jacob, both starring Louis de Funès. La Folie des Grandeurs tells the story of a disgraced Spanish nobleman who attempts to get his title back by introducing is servant to court disguised as a nobleman. Les Aventures de Rabbi Jacob tells the story of racist Frenchman on his way to his daughter's wedding when he has a car accident, finds out his chauffeur is a Jew and after dismissing him for refusing to work on Shabbat, witnesses an attempted murder on an Arabic rebel who accidentally drags him along in his escape. Both the rebel and the racist Frenchman somehow end up having to disguise as rabbis from America and end up in the Jewish district of Paris for a huge Bar Mitzvah celebration. Both brilliant and hilarious.

Add all Gendarme movies to the list, they are funny.
And definitely "Oscar".

Le Gendarme de Saint Tropez for sure. The other Gendarmes movies, I'm not so sure.

I believe that it was this movie that I saw in 1976 in Peru when I was on vacation. I remember Terry-Thomas, but what I remember most was the code whistled "Tea for Two". Maybe I am wrong, but was this song used in the movie?

I saw this film in Paris on Christmas day 1966. I like L.d.F. and Bourvil anyway, so I was happy to see it last night again in the TV5.
Apart for the films suggested by EibhlinnSavage, I recommend some older films of the aforementioned comedians, going back to the 50’s and even to the 40’s. They are of excellent humor and great acting. There are not such comedians anymore.

It's nice to see so many positive posts for this underrated film.
