One of the Funniest Movies From Europe...I think

"Don't Look Now... We're Being Shot At!" or "La Grande Vadrouille" is hilarious! I saw this film on videotape while visiting friends and family in Europe. It was so laugh-out-loud hilarious, that I just have to have this. But, it's so damned rare! WHY? We need the DVD please!

This is by far Terry-Thomas' (as Sir Reginald) funniest role.

This has to be a real DVD from a real, reputable studio. I don't want some thing that was burned without special features or really any more quality than a videotape.

Come on, Criterion Collection!! This is right up your alley!!

"just an old funny movie" ?!?!?!?!?!

Oh god, this one is probably the funniest movie in french cinema history, which is not neglictible. Two other Gerard Oury and Louis de Funes movies are also must-see : "La folie des grandeurs" and "Les aventures de Rabi Jacob".
Some other movies have made me laugh to cry, but these ones are essentially filled with visual gags, and so should be as funny for non french-speaking publics. Why are you still reading these lines, you should already be purchasing them !! :-)

...and it also is pure joy to watch it in the german-dubbed version, back then german translators often tried to be funnier than the movie originally was, ruining every part of it. But here they did a great job! A good buddy of mine and me have a favorite quote from this movie, we often use when we see german soldiers portrayed in movies or documentaries:

Bouvet: (upon opening his entrance door, when suddenly a flock of SS soldiers rush in) "Ah! Die Herren von den Gaswerken! Kommen Sie doch rein..."
("Ah! The gentlemen from the gas-works! Come on in...")

Well if there isn't any hidden meaning... :-))

Wonder what he said in french!?

Also I agree with you about that visual humor part, especially the scene in which LeFort and the german colonel lie together in one bed, without knowing and Stanislas is desperately trying to catch some sleep - everytime my girl and I watch that movie, we fall off the couch laughing, when this scene comes along (besides: perfect chemistry between Funes and Sterzenbach throughout the movie, IMO)

You're forgetting "Le corniaud"!!

I never make mistakes. Once I thought I did, but I was wrong.

It's a classic! I love it. If you liked it you should also try this other French comedy with Louis de Funès: La Folie des Grandeurs.

The French blu Ray is fine. This is one of the absolutely funniest films I have ever seen. De Funes is a genius. I just pu Chase over a dozen French released blu Rays featuring this wonderful actor.
