2 Missing Races?

At the time of this story, there were 9 Grand Prix races. The film only depicts 7 of them:

Monaco
France
Belgium
The Netherlands
America (New York)
England
and Italy

Where were the other two?

reply

The German Grand prix was mentioned but not shown. I believe that the German organisers had signed up with the rival Warner Bros/Steve McQueen movie. The Mexican Grand prix is seen only as shots of Yamura and Aron watching a movie of the race in order to find out why Aron is not winning. The "French Grand Prix" in the film was entirely fake, the actual Grand Prix de la ACF in 1966 was at Reims. The races were not in the correct order, which was, Monaco, Belgium, France, Great Britain, Netherlands, Germany, Italy, USA, Mexico. But then, of course, the film is fiction and is not necessarily set in 1966!

Yes, it's all about dramatic license and of course Frankenheimer already had enough footage for a 3 hour film, without adding a couple more races.🐭
