Yves Montand is the best thing about this movie...

Montand's scenes are better-written than anybody else's and he brings a gravitas to the part lacking in everybody else. Maybe he's just a better actor. And I thought Genevieve Page was wonderful as his icy wife, but her entrance comes too late into the film to save it. The scene where she and Eva Marie Saint awkwardly face each other was one of the best in the film. Montand's whole story was way more engaging than anybody else's. The scenes with James Garner, Brian Bedford, Jessica Walter, et al, were just a chore to sit through. And Toshiro Mifune being dubbed by Paul Frees for his English dialogue just took me out of the movie.
