Plot-wise . . .

I think this might be my favorite Godzilla flick thus far (granted I haven't watched even half of them yet, though I grew up on them). I mainly like it because, aside from the later films, this plot is simple and acceptable. The only part I can really point out not liking is when Godzilla and Ebirah play catch with the giant boulder.

Otherwise, everything pretty much makes sense. It is quite illogical that Godzilla would reside on the one island in trouble, but whatever. I also really liked the depiction of Mothra as it should be depicted . . . praised, surrounded by believers, and majestic. Thumbs up!

yeah, i second that. as a kid, this was the godzilla movie i went back to the most. the human characters are good (the thief, the bumbler) and the monster battles infinitely satisfying. there's a vivid and bright feeling to the whole thing and i can still hear the mantra of the mothra cult in my head...

I agree with your comments. I just turned my two boys on to Godzilla this year
(they are pre-teenagers) and they love the big lug! We purchased this one
and love the humor and storyline. That thief was great as well as the
dubbing for that one whiny character. Definitely different, glad there were
no aliens.

Two things stuck out in my Mind for this movie even if I havn't seen it in Years

1. the one guy was dubbed by the same voice as Speed Racer.
2. I always thought Godzilla playing catch with the Lobster was one and still is my Favorite Sceen in any Godzilla movie.

Always enjoy a good Godzilla movie when I am in a blue funk. Thank you You great Big Lug for all you do.

This was easily my favorite Godzilla movie. I watched this so many times as a kid after my grandmother bought me the vhs for my 7th birthday. I think the parts that stuck out the most for me was

1. The dance marathon to win the boat. I couldn't stop laughing at the music and peoples dance moves. The breakdown of the song before the two guys fall out had me rolling.

2. When the thief exclaims "it's my instinct, I know every second..." then has to run because of being shot at.

3. Every scene with the lobster. For some reason he was always one of my favorite monsters. Especially when he starts terrorizing with the rock and stands there clapping. lol.

This movie was just a good time.

I kind of liked Son of Godzilla too with the giant preying mantises and "spigah".

I really liked it. it was humorous, ridiculous, and it made some sense, and THERE WERE NO ALIENS!
The catch scene is so ridiculous, so hilarious, and is proof that Toho has no idea of how gravity works. Another example is when Godzilla and King Caesar play volleyball with a balled up Angurius...

Why was the catch scene ridiculous. A giant lobster should be able to play volleyball at a high level due to their enormous claws. They can really put a tight grip on a boulder. And Godzilla is an incredible beast who can do so many things at a high level. Toho studios did a great job with that scene
