Just saw 'Glass Bottom Boat' last night after not seeing it for maybe 20 years.
While the plot is pretty silly, I was quite impressed with Do-Do; She looked great! At age 42, she was probably a little old to be playing the lead, but I can't recall her being any sexier.

I was just wondering what it would have been like if Doris had accepted the role of Mrs. Robinson in 'The Graduate'? I've heard that it was offered to her, but she turned it down as being 'immoral' or such. THAT sure would have shown a different aspect of Do-Do, wouldn't it? Not sure if I can picture Doris being mean and bitchy though, and it would be hard to top Anne Bancroft's performance.
Doris Day's age was indetermenant in this picture. She looked youngish and was beautiful. They could have omitted the "cute" little part in the kitchen when Taylor talks about "the boys chasing" her. Day, of course freezes and goes into her "I'm so scared of sex:" routine, which was unnecessary. She was playing a grown woman here, somebody "around" her own age. This very funny movie, "Boat," was certainly not insulting like "That Touch of Mink" in which Doris and Audrey Meadows were chasing men, but felt personally that they loathed them. Day was playing a young girl (yes, she was too old for the part) who, though deathly afraid of sex, was so money-hungry, she goes to a foreign country with a rich MAN and doesn't expect that he'll want sex!
"Mink" is the most anti-male movie she ever made, save for "Move Over Darling" another blockbuster at the boxoffice, but a bummer.
I adore Doris Day, but wish she'd opted to do more straight dramas. Too bad she was forced to go into television. If her husband, who, before he died, hadn't signed for her to do a TV series (unbeknownst to her!) she would have continued in films for at least ten more years.
The lovely Ms Day does indeed look particularly fine in this movie. The scene where she is wearing some of Rod Taylor's clothes (having got her own covered in Banana Cream cake!) and Rod is massaging her feet is especially sexy.
