James Mason Age

I know actors were very vain about their age way back , but 49 ??? Give me a break. No way James Mason was 49 or looked anywhere near that age. I looked it up and sure enough Mr. Mason was late 50s.

Haha I thought the same thing. He was his 50s, but looked in his 60s, yet the movie claimed he was in his 40s. Right! I still love him as an actor, though.

It just made it look stupid. As I said in my review they probably wanted Mason badly for the role and part of the condition was the age thing. Many of the actors looked older than they were. I think it was because of smoking. Even today I notice smokers look older and non smokers look younger. I am just saying lol

The age of the Mr. James character is an infinitesimal point in the film.

And James Mason was NOT a smoker off screen. He suffered a heart attack in 1959 and never smoked after this. He was also a very occasional smoker prior to that.

I got the impression that the character was lying about his age. He says "today I am 49, notice, I am not 50 yet." I guessed that he has been celebrating his 49th birthday every year for 10 years.

Yes, I always wondered about that too, and thought 49 was awfully young to become a widower.
