Herbert Lom really makes this movie.

Naturally, it would be great with MacLaine and Caine alone, but Lom's presence really elevates the film. I love that the real character is a lot smarter and more suspicious than his imagined persona is.

Lom was relegated to so many villain roles. Even his (IMO) greatest character, Dreyfus in the Pink Panther series, was a villain for the first few films. It was nice to see that this film, (Like Dreyfus) gave him a chance to really shine.

I love to love my Lisa.

I thought that all the actors were perfectly cast.

I agree that Lom's character is much smarter and more suspicious than what Michael Caine's character thinks of him.

I think it's good too that he's not a villain by any stretch - in fact I was initially sympathetic to him because Dean is using the memory of his dead wife to manipulate him. He's sort of an antagonist not a villain. And very charming too.

The Alan Rickman character in the remake was more of a villain than Lom.

Its that man again!!

If you think about it, each of the three characters underestimated each other which is part of the charm of the movie
