When will 'Follies' have it's film version?

If Sondheim is making Sweeney Todd, when is he going to consider making Follies a movie?!

'Normal' is a term invented by the majority as an excuse for making fun of the minority.

I agree it would be amazing.

Clouds have silver linings, but every year, hundreds are struck by lightning searching.

How many film boards are you posting this question on?

"Follies" is, to my mind, so inextricably connected to the artifice of the theatre that it would not translate at all well to film. It is about "theatre being theatre" and its taking place on the stage of a theatre is part and parcel of its magic. Look at the film of "A Chorus Line," which was also dependent on its location *in a theatre* to make its point. That also flopped as a film. And, in much the same way, the film of "Hair" which was not a plot-driven show, but, rather a musical revue with the sixties as its subject simply *belonged* to the theatre and not to the realistic medium of film.

Good point, but in fact, back in the 70s, there was a plan to bring FOllies to the screen by changing the story line so it would be set in a Hollywood studio about to be demolished. The plan was to cast aging female stars (possibly Liz Taylor and Doris Day) in the two lead female roles, and use actual footage of these stars in old films as commentary. Great idea, but unfortunately, the window of opportunity to do the film this way has long passed.

That would be interesting, although Follies isn't really the greatest play in the world. It was done as a TV-special in 1985 or video, if I remember correctly. By the way, I appeared in a community theater production of Follies in 2004, playing Max Deems, Stella's husband. It wasn't a big part, but I had some nice moments.
