I would like to take a moment to piss and moan about the insensitive way this film deals with white slavery and why everyone one this message board has failed to be aghast at the merry and amusing way the slaves are portrayed. Why, if they weren't white we'd be hearing no end of the matter, don't you know. So, maybe this movie should be sealed away in a vault somewhere and denied to the movie-viewing public, kind of like the way they did to Song of the South.

And to make things even worse, not one of the actors who played a slave in this film was Oscar-nominated. All the OScar nominees that year played free people!

Good point. In another thread, I make the case that this is the most sexist play of the 1960's. It should be R rated because it's in such poor taste, imho.
