Not a bad sequel, but Sidney J. Furie and Peter Hunt were sorely missed...

A shame Saltzman didn't appreciate Sidney J. Furie's contribution to the success of The Ipcress File. Guy Hamilton was a solid journeyman director but he lacked the wonderfully paranoid and voyeuristic style of Furie. Peter Hunt's editing wasn't equaled in this sequel either., which I found a bit flat and pedestrian by comparison. Since cinematographer Otto Heller returned for the sequel, I have to assume distinctive style of the first film was mostly down to the director and editor. Konrad Elfer's score was actually very good and appropriate, so I can't complain too much there...but I still would love to have heard what Barry did with the material. Elfer's musical score was the only area that I feel matched the original film in terms of quality.
