Mid level guy makes 30 quid a week in 1966, that's 525 a week in 2016. That's 25,000 a year, surely UK spies make more than that.

Now you know why he needs an 800 pound loan for an automobile. Let's not forget Palmer (not his real name) is a military criminal. Ross could easily send him back to the army lockup where he found him. Or turn him out into the streets, letting any potential employer know he's a former thief.

Doubt it. From what I've heard, most spies don't make that much cash. Apparently the median in the UK is around 29,000. So, yeah, okay, maybe they'd make a bit more than 25,000, but not much. 30?

My dad was earning $21 a week after tax in 1970 and it was considered an average wage .
