Squeeth, old friend. Perhaps you meant to say, "The SPY Who Came in From The Cold."

A great Cold War movie ending up at The Wall in Berlin. I read that John le Carre didn't like the movie version of his book. Too bad. I liked it.

Most people, if they think back to those days of the Berlin Wall at all, believe the Wall just divided the city. It was much more than that...The Wall completely surrounded West Berlin, making it a tiny island of prosperity and freedom under the guns of the East German and Soviet forces for decades. There were crisis times where that little enclave could have been snuffed out.

Young generations read about or see movies concerning the Iron Curtain, the Cold War and the Berlin Wall...shake their heads...and wonder how the older generation could risk nuclear oblivion over a line on the ground. It's funny...even for people like me not directly involved, the Iron Curtain/Cold War struggle defined part of my adult psyche...as in, which side of the line is some world event happening.

It's all past, now.

Although the comment that this is responding to was deleted for some reason, I distinctly remember it from the IMDB days. In case anyone is curious, it mistakenly referred to the movie as "The Man Who Came in From the Cold."

I recommend The Lives of Others.

Check out Night People, a b&w thriller starring Gregory Peck as a U.S. Army Officer responsible for arranging safe defections from East Berlin to the West. Not on dvd, but TCM occasionally runs it.

This signature was about how IMDb's redesign sucks, but it got all my messages deleted, so nevermind

People today easily forget that Berlin was not the only City divided.
Vienna (and the rest of Austria, of course) was also divided (until 1955) between the Great Four Powers of WWII.

And set in Vienna as scene of crime is Carol Reed's masterpiece, one of greatest films ever - The Third Man.
Part of the TV Series A Perfect Spy is set in Austria

Don''t forget 'Bridge of Spies' , Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. Lot's of attention to detail to capture the earlier era.

And it had yet to be produced and released at the time this question was originally posted.
