Big pile of cheez whiz

This movie is extremely cheesy. It is set in the south, but it sure looked like California to me. A lot of fighting in this movie. And in the final scenes at Daytona did Frankie Avalon beat up Richard Petty and drive his car in the big race? When they showed his car in the pits it sure looked like Richard was driving. These horrible miscues made the movie more of a comedy than a mystery/thriller. There are some more extremely laughable scenes in the big race but I don't want to spoil the movie for anyone. haha.

Overall 3/10.

I think they took film footage from the old "Road and Track" show.

That's actually footage of Grand National Racing at Daytona from the era (around 1964-5). That actually is Richard Petty shown driving the #43 in several shots.

Same thing with Thunder Alley, the character of Eddie Sands is driving #43. The footage of the rollover is an actual crash of Richard Petty about 5 years or so earlier (than 1967).

If you see a shot with a driver and he has a rag hanging from his mouth, that's the King.

When I saw it as a kid, I thought it was great, but as I grew older, it was/is very corny.

Actually after considering the footage we are discussing here, I think that's really Lee Petty shown going over the wall in the actual footage used from about 1961.

Yes I remember watching this as a kid every time it was on TV and always thought is was cool. I still like it, though it does seem corny in places. My favorite parts are the scenes of the moon-runner cars.

Yea. It was corny but it was an O.K. movie to watch that contained no foul words, or actual nudity that was just inserted for viewer shock.

The "I Love You Leander" on the girls butt's was as cool as It gets, just a great 60's thing. Not a fantastic movie but one to watch for giggles, fun or a memory re-fresh of the Beach Movies with the current cast of Fabian and others.

I found this film to be a perfectly harmless piece of enjoyable fluff.
