$5 Million Budget Equal to About $40 Million in 2021

Since it had so much novel F/X work, I was curious about the budget. It cost about $5 million to produce which is equivalent to about $40 million today. By comparison, it was much less expensive than today's modern CGI-heavy films.

Actors' salaries really balloon the budget for these movies. Look at District 9. It cost a fraction compared to Transformers 2 but its visuals still look great.

District 9 is still a very sharp looking film. Looks much more expensive than the budget ($30 million) would indicate. Have you seen any of Blomkamp's new Oats Studio's stuff on Netflix?

I'm guessing LaBeouf and Fox pulled in big bucks for Transformers, but the vast majority of the audience turned out primarily for the CGI robots. Seems like any number of actors could've played those parts.

No, I kind of got burnt out on Blomkamp after Elysium. I didn't bother with Chappie.

It was a quality production, no doubt. I'm sure it was a real spectacle back in the mid-60s.
