HYWELL BENNET

Its years since I saw it but even then I had the hots for Hywell Bennet. What ever happened to him. That guy was gorgeous.
By the way... he could act too!

I last saw him in a few episodes of 'The Bill' about a year ago, playing of all things, a reformed child molester! I would never have known him he has of course aged in the last 40 years since he did this movie and isn't as cute as he used to be!

I too had the "hots" for Hywel Bennett (note the correct spelling).

Sadly he fell foul of the demon drink and became fat and bloated. I believe he got sacked from Eastenders due to his bad behaviour. I saw him 2 or 3 years ago in a pub in Chelsea and he looked pretty awful. If you google him you can find some pretty nasty stories about his behaviour. It is such a waste of talent. After a number of great films he was a great success in TV shows such as Shelley, which I also loved, and which is now available on DVD too.

Thank you very much and for spelling correction. What a sad story! He was a lovely actor in the early years.

So much for being charitable, and checking the facts before you condemn him!

From Wikipedia:~
"Bennett retired in 2007 after being diagnosed with a congenital heart defect"

I have a friend with a similar condition, and can tell you that the (very strong) medication that they take produces the same pronounced effects on their face, puffiness etc;which looks similar to alcoholism but is not.
Next time please check before jumping to conclusions.

Something that I only recently discovered was that the small but pivotal role in the 1979 British TV version of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy of Ricki Tarr was played by Mr. Bennett. While he doesn't look at ALL like Hywel Bennett here, he does look EXACTLY like I imagined Ricki Tarr :)
